Provided Once Again

Just a few months ago, Hubby retired from the company in which he had worked for more than 40 years. It was a time of great anticipation coupled with warnings that the man of this castle would probably be working harder at home than he had at his full-time job. His castle needs much TLC as the “Honey-Do” list grows each day.

However, one thing we did not anticipate was worrying about when his pension check would finally arrive. All the paperwork had been submitted on time, and we just assumed the wheels of human relations would keep turning to ensure that all retirees would receive their payments according to the promised schedule.

One week melted into the next and still now pension check had arrived. Hubby diligently presented his case to his former employer week after week, only to hear that the last person had not given him the correct answer or that the money was delayed in coming.

Thanksgiving and Christmas over-road our concerns as we shared memorable moments with family and friends. Then, in January winter dropped its chill on our hopes of receiving Hubby’s checks despite his continuing efforts to get the situation settled.

In the meantime, I watched our savings account dwindle down to less than $100. All the while I praised God for having nudged me to put any excess money into our savings account before my Man retired. I saw the Lord’s hand provide for our needs during this time through the prompting He had given me prior to our circumstances.

Recently, I have been reading a book on the names of God. One of the names that was familiar to me is “Jehovahjire” meaning God sees and God provides. This name of God is used only once in the Old Testament and that was when Abraham was about to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, on the mountain as God had asked. When The Father had “provided” a ram as a substitute, Abraham proclaimed that mountain, “Jehovahjire” because God had seen the love and willingness in Abraham’s heart to surrender that which meant the most to Him. And The Father, Himself, provided the sacrifice for Abraham.

God often takes us down to the eleventh hour before we see His promises and word fulfilled in our lives. At least that’s the way I see God working most frequently in my life. Perhaps I need more practice in patience.

Hubby’s check finally arrived 8 weeks from the promised date, but God had provided again. If you find yourself getting frustrated with the silence of God where you know He should have, would have provided, remember how God brings us to that last miniscule ability for us to solve the problem, and then He moves in to meed your need to strengthen your faith and teach you that only He has the solution.

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh:as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen. Genesis 22:14 KJV”

  1. Janis, I find your testimony very encouraging today. We stir up one another’s faith as we tell our stories of God’s faithfulness. Yes the Lord provides! Have a great weekend.

    • Hi Wanda~thank you for visiting. Yes, our faith grows as we share how God has worked in our lives. You have a great weekend as well.

  2. Janis, I was only sharing with a friend yesterday how we have needed to use our savings for survival a couple of times over the last five years because of life changes. And each time our savings have just about run out before God has blessed us with new income of some kind. God definitely does things at the eleventh hour! But I think He uses these experiences to grow us in our faith just like Abraham – the man of great faith.
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.
